Sheppard leads winning team home


Karen Sheppard led her team to victory in the annual 3 kilometres handicap road walk for the Graham Mann Memorial Team Trophy. Backed up with the two in form walkers Phil Lockwood and Stuart Le Noury, scratch walker Karen held on to finish in second place individually, overtaken only by Rose Drückes. Third and fourth across the line, Lockwood, with another personal best time of 15.39, beating his old best by 53 seconds and Le Noury, three seconds up on his previous best deservedly took the team prize. Not to be left out Sheppard was 30 seconds quicker than her performance in this event last year.

Race winner Drückes equalled her Guernsey age best time of 20.17 and helped her team into second place.

Phil Lockwood joins the Le Noury walkers, Stuart, Jason and Kevin in next weeks Hampshire Championships in Portsmouth held over the same distance.

The next local walk is on Friday May 16th at Les Amarreurs, Vale. The distance is 5 kilometres and is Race 3 in the Sarnia Walking Club “Yorkshire Guernsey” Championship. Start time is at 6.45 pm. Further details from Jayne Le Noury, Tel: 246865.
