Jason Celebrates 20th Birthday with Racewalk Championship Title

Jason Le Noury could not do enough to win the race on his birthday, but his second place and new Personal Best was enough for him to win the Sarnia Walking Club “Yorkshire Guernsey” Championship Series, with brother Stuart taking second place. Race winner of the 7th and last walk in the Series was Carl Thomson, less than a week after winning a 20 kms road walk in Enfield. He was an easy winner over the 10 kilometres distance at Les Amarreurs, clocking 48.30.
Walking an even pace throughout he won by four minutes from young Jason who improved his best by a minute. Phil Lockwood, down in fifth position at halfway, moved up a few places to claim third place from Rob Elliott. His 53.41 clocking was a new Personal Best by three minutes. His season ended on a high, taking third place in the Championship and a first place in the Jubilee Tankard Handicap Series held in combination. This was a reflection on his continued progress in his first full year of racing. A fine walk by Katrine Thomson gave her a new best time of 56.16, an unofficial best by a Guernsey woman, due to insufficent judges to claim a new Island Record. Jayne Le Noury, timekeeper on this occasion, retained her Championship title from Rose Drückes, with Thomson in third.

Carl Thomson`s walk at Enfield was held on a multilap course in wet and windy conditions. His strength showed as he came home first in a thirty strong field, walking past 10 kms in 51.48 before slightly slowing in the latter half to finish in 1.44.03. Recent Church to Church walk competitor Trevor Jones ( Hillingdon) finished second in 1.48.27, followed by Phil Barnard (Castlepoint) in 1.50.48. Sarnia Walking Club member Mick Barnbrook, based in England, finished in 12th place in 2.24.14. Racewalk judges praised Carls effort and technique after the race, a boost to any racewalker!
