Bob Wright Handicap Series Race 1
5 kms road walk
Les Amarreurs, Vale, Guernsey
Sheppard Opens Series with Victory
Karen Sheppard kept her lead from start to finish in the opening race of the Bob Wright Handicap Series. Breaking 39 minutes Karen held off a surprised Alan Roger, who had moved into second place in the final kilometre, to finish just over a minute behind. Fast finishing Phil Lockwood finished only strides behind in third spot. His actual time of 26.15 was a new Personal Best time by one minute. Within ten seconds of Lockwood, John Dedman just got the better of Rose Drückes  to take fourth place.
Second man home in the recent Church to Church Walk, Jason Le Noury, looked relaxed throughout the race, but was feeling the effects of the 19.4 miles walk. He finished close to his best and held off Church winner Carl Thomson by six seconds on handicap. Thomson`s actual time of 23.59 was the fastest of the day, ahead of Jason le Noury`s 25.23.
Two newcomers to walking, Kay Coulson and Bjoern Staben, had solid first walks, finishing in 13th and 14th places.
The next walk is on Sunday September 28th over a distance of 3 miles. Start time is at 9.30am. The course is from Lancresse (Hotel site) to Bulwer Avenue. All are welcome. Details from Jayne Le Noury, Tel 246865.
