Fast Finish Gives Jason Victory
Jason Le Noury clawed back a 15 metres deficit in the final 200 metres to claim a close victory over Carl Thomson in the 5th race of the Sarnia Walking Clubs “Yorkshire Guernsey” Championship. Thomson and Le Noury had been locked together in the early stages of the 3000 metres walk, going through the first kilometre in 4.36. The same pace was kept for the next kilometre as the walkers clocked 9.12.
Thomson pulled away over the next few laps and gained a 15 metres advantage. With 200 metres to go it was going to be hard to close the gap, but 20 year old Le Noury`s younger legs still had a kick left in them as he went past Masters walker Thomson with only metres to go, as both kept the same pace going throughout the walk. Thomson`s time was on par with his recent walks over the distance, whilst Jason smashed his previous best time by almost half a minute.
Stuart Le Noury claimed third place a minute behind.
Jayne Le Noury still claims top spot in the Womens Championship, although finishing in second place to womens winner Katrine Thomson. Katrine`s time of 17.04 gives her second place in the Guernsey All Time lists, behind Jenny Elliott who walked 16.14 ten years ago.
Club stalwart Dave Dorey walked his best race for a long time to claim first place in the handicap section of the walk, ahead of Jason Le Noury.
The Sarnia Walking Club members had a short silence before the race, in respect of Laurence Dordoy of Ilford AC, who died recently as a result of a traffic accident in England. Laurence was a friend of the club and a regular visitor in recent years to the Church to Church Walk.Dordoy
The next walk is on Sunday June 28th. The distance is 2000 metres at Footes Lane and is the 6th race in the SWC “Yorkshire Guernsey” club Championships. Start time is 9.30 am. Further details from Jayne Le Noury, Tel 246865.

  1. Hi there,

You have no pictures of the above person who smashed his time from last year running in his first race as a Race Wheelchair User (Last year he did the race in a standard chair again in aid of Guernsey MS Society). Apparently, he bettered his previous best and recorded a time of 1hr 26 minutes – thereby, smashing his previous best by 1hr and 4 minutes

    All the best Marie
