Four Hill Wins in Four Years

Stuart Le Noury recorded his fourth Val des Terres hill climb win in a row in the Sarnia Walkings Clubs annual end of year time trial to take home the Rob Waterman Shield. All the competitors are set off at two minute intervals, making it a true time trial event.
He finished thirteen seconds clear of brother Jason, who does not find the climb to his liking. His winning time of 4.47 was only seconds down on his best set last year in more favourable conditions. Phil Lockwood finished third in 5.19.
Leading lady was Katrine Thomson, winning the womens shield, in  a new Ladies best time of 5.26, edging out the previous best time held by Jenny Elliott set in 1987.
Jayne Le Noury had the second fastest ladies time, with a 6.40 clocking. This was her best time since 1982. Close behind was Jane Rowlinson in 6.45, improving her debut time of last year.
At the back of the field, timekeeper “Santa” Terry Bates, complete in outfit, walked the hill in an unofficial 8.21 on his way to the finish line at the top of the hill.
The next walk is on Sunday January 3rd. It is a 3 miles road walk between Lancresse and Bulwer Avenue, starting at 9.30am. Details from Jayne Le Noury, tel 246865.
