Five Hill Wins for Stuart Le Noury

Stuart Le Noury raced to his fifth consecutive win in the Sarnia Walking Clubs annual time trial up the Val des Terres for the Rob Waterman Shield. His winning time of 4.46 was a few seconds outside of his previous best, but well ahead of second placed Phil Lockwood. Phil took a second off his previous best time as he held off Terry Bates by tenths of a second. Walkers are set off at two minute intervals, so it is a true test of racing against the clock. Kevin Le Noury in fourth spot claimed possibly his first win in any racewalk in over thirty years over Rob Elliott, both finishing either side of six minutes. Rob had to also see his winning streak in the event bettered by Stuart Le Noury. Elliott had managed 4 wins in a row from between 2000 and 2003. Despite winning 15 times since 1976 his “run” was interupted by his brother Mark Elliott or Carl Thomson on numerous occasions. His only claim to fame now is the record time for the event of 4.07. Stalwarts Dave Dorey and Mick Le Sauvage completed the mens field.

Jane Rowlinson won the Ladies Shield with a new personal best time of 6.32, ahead of past winners Jayne Le Noury in second place and Rose Druckes in third. Kay Coulson also produced a personal best time back in fourth place in the Womens event, only two seconds down on third place. Carol Bates finished a few seconds later in 5th place.
The event was sponsored by Cherry Godfrey, Woodlock Financial Services and the Healthspan Group. The final race of the year is on Sunday December 19th at Saumarez Park over 5 kilometres. Start time is 9.30 am. Details from Jayne Le Noury, tel 246865.
