Sarnia Walking Club Championship One
10,000 metres track walk
Osmond Priaulx, Guernsey
Personal Best time for Winner
Stuart Le Noury opened up his defence of the Sarnia Walking Club Championships with a convincing win over 10,000 metres. An even paced walk saw him cross the finish line in 50.11, well over a minute quicker than his previous best time. Phil Lockwood was a distant second in 56.51, ahead of third man home Rob Elliott, who after an absence of a few years got under the hour barrier again. Terry Bates took fourth place in a new Guernsey age best time, ahead of Kevin Le Noury and Mick Le Sauvage.
The club have been saddened this week by the sudden passing of Womens Champion Carol Bates, for whom there was a minutes applause held before the start in her memory. Jayne Le Noury took the win in just over 70 minutes, with newcomer Karen Farman in second place five minutes behind. Third place went to Rose Druckes, whilst Joanne Le Prevost improved the time she set in her first race only months ago by an impressive 13 minutes. She was closely followed by Kay Coulson, walking very close to her best time.
The next walk is the second race in the Championships. It is on Sunday March 18th at 9.00 am at Saumarez Park over a distance of 5 kilometres. Details from Jayne Le Noury, tel 246865.
