Guernsey walker Stuart Le Noury used this race as a final sharpener for Sundays Church to Church Walk as he led from start to finish in a time of 14.09. Second man home visitor Jim Ball started steadily and moved into second place in the latter stages of the walk to finish just under a minute behind. Second local walker Phil Lockwood finished close behind in 15.16.
Newcomer to Guernsey Frans Leijtens from the Netherlands finished seconds ahead of past Great Britain international walker Neil Bates in 17.01, but had to give best to Rob Elliott in 4th place. Frans may have found this race a little bit short as he is more well known as a long distance walker. Terry Bates, who ran in the Guernsey marathon only five days ago, recovered well to finish in 17.47.
Other visitors, getting ready for the Church to Church Walk were Sean Pender, David Delaney and David Hoben mixing it well with the local Sarnia stalwarts. Sean Pender walked an isolated race in 18.23, with local Kevin Le Noury holding off the two Surrey WC walkers Delaney and Hoben. Dave Hoben is a regular visitor to our shores whilst David Delaney is on his second walking visit.
Local walkers completed the field with Mick Le Sauvage not far behing the Surrey duo, whilst Jayne Le Noury was the quickest of the women in 21.12 ahead of Rose Druckes and Kay Coulson. Getting amongst the women was newcomer Allan Harris in 22.21.
