Bob Wright Handicap Series Race 7
1 mile track

Close Series Win for Jamie

After 7 races in the Bob Wright Handicap Series Jamie Marsh (photo above, right) emerged victorious in a close contest with Allan Harris (photo above, left). With each walkers best 5 scores to count, Jamie headed into the final race with a three points advantage over Allan. These two walkers having both started rqcing only recently have come from different athletic backgrounds.

Allan started using the walks for health reasons and continues to improve, whilst Jamie walked a couple of events many years ago, namely a Church to Church walk and a Hill Climb. He is better known as a past competitor at the 1986 Commonwealth Games where he ran in the 5,000 and 10,000 metres events and was Guernseys leading runner for many years.

Allan helped his cause when finishing the final race over 1 mile in 4th position, behind winner Dave Dorey and in a new personal best time. Little did Jamie know at the time but his final effort which saw him overtake Rose Druckes and then hold off the fast finishing Stuart Le Noury would be good enough for him to tie on points with Harris.

Both finished the Series with 88 points with Marsh winning on countback. Both walkers had secured a win and a second place in previous races, with Jamie also claiming a third spot, whilst Allan`s next best was fourth.Third overall in the Series was Jayne Le Noury (photo above, middle).
In the final race, a good field of 14 lined up to start, out of the 21 walkers that have scored in the series.

Dave Dorey took the win by a few seconds from Mick Le Sauvage with a watch time of 11.35. Rob Elliott took third place 15 seconds later.
The male walkers with the fastest actual times found themselves towards the back of the field. Stuart Le Noury finished in 7.04, followed by Jason Le Noury at 7.40 and Phil Lockwood 7.53. Jayne Le Noury was the fastest woman in 10.39, ahead of Rose Druckes in 11.32. There was a warm welcome for new walker Peter Beckerleg who walked well in the cold conditions to record 12.17.

The next race is the first of the Sarnia Walking Clubs Heritage Group Championships. The race is over 5 kilometres at Saumarez Park on March 3rd with an 8.30 am start. Walkers please note the start time! Any newcomers will be welcome to come and have a go. Details from Jayne Le Noury tel 246865 or lenouryjedburgh@cwgsy.net.
