5 kilometres road walk
Saumarez Park, Guernsey

Jason Le Noury starts new year as he left the old.

Due to the road conditions after the previous days storms with vraic, stones and seawater covering the expected last half mile, the race at Torteval was moved to the Saumarez Park 5 kilometres course. As in last weeks race over the same distance the Le Noury boys were together for the early stages of the race as they completed the first lap of four  in 6.15. Phil Lockwood went through around 6.50 with Rob Elliott just under 7 minutes. Still together at the half way point in 12.55 it did not take long for Jason to pull away for an easy victory with a slightly faster second half. Brother Stuart faded to finish in 27.07, with Phil Lockwood in third in 28.36, well over a minute quicker than his walk the week before. The walkers were held back a little by the freshly topped up gravel sections but otherwise conditions were fine.
Rob Elliott after an ambtious first lap, walked the final three laps at an even pace for fourth place in 29.14.
Kevin Le Noury got the better of Peter Beckerleg and Mick Le Sauvage for fifth place. The leading woman was Jayne Le Noury in 37.11, closely followed by Gordon Mercier who walked a new personal best time. Back in tenth, Kay Coulson walked under 40 minutes and well up on her last weeks race.
The next walk is on Sunday January 12th 2014 from Pleinmont to Grandes Rocques. It is the fifth race in the Bob Wright Handicap Series with the first walker starting at 9.30 am. over a 10 kilometres distance.
