Jayne Le Noury stays ahead

Jayne Le Noury, the first walker away in the third race of the Bob Wright Handicap Series, had her best one mile race for some time to stay ahead of the rest of the chasing walkers to cross the line in 12.03. Rob Elliott held on by two seconds for second place on handicap ahead of the fast finishing Stuart Le Noury. Stuart had the fastest time of the day with his 7.32 clocking and stays ahead in the Series table, followed by Jayne Le Noury and Phil Lockwood.

Heritage Group Championships Race Ten

Race winner retains Heritage Group Championship 

Race winner Stuart Le Noury retained the Heritage Group Mens Championship with a win in the tenth race of the Sarnia Walking Club Championship for the Sportsman Cup. His time of 7.53 for the one mile race was 44 seconds quicker than Rob Elliott who finished the race as well as the Championship in second place and winner of the Grace Mansfield Endeavour Trophy.

Third place went to Phil Lockwood in 9.36. Wendy Wilson was the quickest of the women with her 10.45, ahead of Kay Coulson and Jayne Le Noury. The absent Donna Allan had done enough prior to the race to win the womens section of the Championships and the Carol Bates Memorial Trophy. Jayne Le Noury took second place overall from Olga Le Noury. Youngest walker in the race was Ellis Lockwood who walked to finish only a few seconds down on the womens winner, with a time of 10.47 wins the Junior Under 17 Championship.

The Jubilee Tankard for the handicapped section of the Championship for both men and women was won by Stuart Le Noury from Phil Lockwood, closely followed by Mick Le Sauvage in third.

Double success for Olga

Olga Le Noury walked away from the field in the clubs annual Philadelphia Cup team handicap walk held in good conditions at Les Amarreurs. Winning the handicap race by twenty three seconds she moved close to her personal best set in this event three years ago with an actual time of 10.05. Second and third places went to Wendy Wilson and Kevin Allan who set off together and only separated by a second at the finish. Both walkers setting new best times. Further down the field in eighth place was Donna Allan and another to set a new personal best time.

Fastest time of the day was Rob Elliott with 8.50.

Winners of the Philadelphia Cup were Olga Le Noury who added team success to her individual win, Donna Allan and Kevin Le Noury whose combined watch times were the quickest.

Another win for Kevin Allan

Kevin Allan secured his second win in the Bob Wright Handicap Series to move clear at the top of the leaderboard with one race to go.

Set off 15 seconds after the scratch walkers Jayne Le Noury and Dave Dorey, he soon bridged the gap and moved ahead, before holding on by a second at the finish line from a fast finishing Phil Lockwood.

Jayne Le Noury in third place holding off Rob Elliott by the same gap of one second. In fifth place the fastest woman on actual time was Donna Allan who improved her best time on the track by around half a minute and in doing so reduced her Guernsey age best time to 9.07. Stuart Le Noury recorded the fastest time of the day with his 7.27.

With one race to go over 5 miles next month and noting the possible discarded races to date in this 5 from 7 to score series, we have Kevin Allan clear by 3 points. Behind him there are nine walkers separated by five points, with everything to walk for in the final event.

Personal best for leading woman

After an absence of several months due to illness, Guernseys leading woman walker Donna Allan again toed the line in the Sarnia Walking Clubs one mile track walk. A cautious start saw her pass the halfway mark in 5.04 before increasing her pace to cross the line in 9.38 for a new personal best time by almost half a minute. 

Expected winner Stuart Le Noury walked a 7.27 mile, well ahead of Rob Elliott in 9.03. Third place went to Donna Allan whose second half time was only a second down on Elliotts.

A close race for 4th was won by Kevin Le Noury from Peter Beckerleg.

Second woman home was Olga Le Noury in 10.49, followed by Mick Le Sauvage and third woman Kay Coulson.

Jayne Le Noury walked her usual consistent race finishing in 11.50 ahead of Dave Dorey.

The next walk is the first race in the Bob Wright Handicap Series. It is over a distance of 5 kilometres at Saumarez Park at 9.00 am on Sunday October 1st .All ages are welcome to come and have a go at race walking in the 7 race series that finishes early next year.

This first event is held in conjunction with the Guernsey Sports Commissions “Older Peoples Week” aiming to get the over 65s into sports in general. They and all other ages will be welcomed.

Heritage Group Championship wins for Le Nourys

Stuart Le Noury claimed the Heritage Group mens championship finishing off the 10 race series with a win over one mile with a time of 7.29. Second on the day and second overall in the championship was Rob Elliott in just under 9 minutes.

Winner of the womens race was Olga Le Noury from Jayne Le Noury. Jayne secured the womens championship with a two point advantage over Kay Coulson.

The combined Heritage championship for the Jubilee Tankard which is a handicapped championship was won by Mick Le Sauvage with a five points lead over Peter Beckerleg with Kevin Le Noury half a point behind that in third.

Coming up soon is the longest walk in the clubs calendar over 19.4 miles. It is the annual Church to Church walk being held on Sunday September 3rd at 9.00  am. All are welcome to come and have a walk between the islands Parish churches starting and finishing at Havelet bay, St Peter Port.. The walk has a generous time limit of 5 hours 30 minutes. A small field is expected with two recent past winners from England due to toe the line. There could be a new name on the winners trophies for the first locals home with last years winners Stuart and Olga Le Noury both off the island at the time.

A few days before this event the club are holding a 3 kilometres walk at Les Amarreurs at 6.30 pm on Friday September 1st. All welcome to walk.

Double for Kay Coulson

Almost always putting in a quick performance in these team races, Kay Coulson secured double success as she led the field home in the one mile handicapped walk at Les Amarreurs finishing with an actual time of 10.50. In very windy conditions the long straight road from near Donkey Divers to the sea at Les Amarreurs  was full head on wind before turning along the coast to be faced with side on wind before the relative calm around Vale Church.

In the team event for the Philadelphia Trophy she was joined by 4th placed Jayne Le Noury and 7th placed Dave Dorey for a combined total watch time of 34.52. But it was close. The second team of Kevin Le Noury, Olga Le Noury and Peter Beckerleg only three seconds behind.

Beckerleg strengthens challenge for Bob Wright Series win

Second place Peter Beckerleg strengthened his challenge for the overall win in the Bob Wright Handicap Series with one race to go. He was beaten on the day only by Stuart Le Noury who walked from starting last to crossing the line first with an actual time of 7.28.

Third place went to Kay Coulson a few seconds down on second place.

After two race discards are taken into consideration in the seven race series Beckerleg and Donna Allan are favourites with Stuart Le Noury and Rob Elliott also in with a shout should they finish the last race well up the field.

The last event is a 5 mile race from Lancresse to White Rock in February. 

Winner Stuart Le Noury won the inaugural Richmond Trophy for 2016 based on the years performances in all local races, presented at the recent club dinner and presentation.

Close race for the women

 

Whilst Stuart Le Noury was enjoying an easy win over one mile, the leading women were involved in a close race as newcomer Donna Allan, who competed in her first race only weeks ago in the Church to Church walk, got the better of Marie Macdonald by one second.

In the process Marie improved on her best time and lost out on the Guernsey age best time to Donna. In third place and close to her best was Kay Coulson. Young Ellis Lockwood walked a good race at the back of the field in 11.39.

The next race is on Sunday October 2nd at Saumarez Park at 9.00 am . It is the first race in the Bob Wright Handicap Series over a distance of 5 kilometres. The series consists of races between 1 mile and 10 kilometres on a handicap start basis, giving all a chance to cross the line first . Newcomers are welcome. Newly weds are crowned as Champions

Newly weds Stuart Le Noury and Olga Sinkevica, the Sarnia Walking Club Heritage Group Champions for 2016 missed the final race over one mile as they were on honeymoon, letting in brother Jason and Marie Macdonald to take the respective victories in the final walk of the series.

Stuart Le Noury again wins the Sportsman Trophy as Champion with 2nd placed Phil Lockwood taking the Grace Mansfield Endeavour Trophy.

Olga Sinkevica wins the Carol Bates Memorial Championship Trophy retaining her title from 2015.

Junior Under 17 walker Alex Sinkevics wins the Junior Championship for the year.

Jason Le Noury walked away from the field to win easily in 7.31 from Phil Lockwood, whilst Marie Macdonald in 10.27 raced to a new Guernsey womens age best time, ahead of Jayne Le Noury.

Jayne Le Noury won the Jubilee Tankard for the handicapped section held in conjunction with the Championships with 89.5 points, ahead of Kay Coulson with 80 points and the first man Mick Le Sauvage.

The next race is on Sunday August 21st at 9.30 am for a 3 miles road walk on the Rocquaine Bay Circuit, starting at the Imperial Hotel and finishing at the Rocquaine coast road car lay-by.

Only a few weeks after that is the annual Church to Church road walk over 19.4 miles on September 4th starting at 9.00am. It is hoped for a close walk between the womens Church Champion Marie Macdonald and 2016 Club Champion Olga Sinkevica, now Le Noury.

Stuart Le Noury the reigning mens Champion can expect the close attention of visitors Jim Ball, himself a past winner and newcomer to the event Sam Fletcher from the Isle of Man. Added to the mix could be Jason Le Noury who has raced sparingly this year.
