Canaccord Genuity Philadelphia Team Race

One mile handicap road walk

Third Philadelphia win in a row for Elliott

For the third year in a row Rob Elliott was part of the winning team in the Canaccord Genuity Philadelphia one mile handicap road walk. On this occasion he was paired with Dave Dorey, who finished in second place in the handicapped walk, backed up with Elliotts 8.00 time, which was his best for many a year.

This time broke the 8.12 that Terry Bates set back in 2006 as an M55

Kay Coulson, who seems to relish this race, smashed her old personal best time set in this race last year and finished in first place for the third year with an actual time of 10.37, taking 41 seconds off her previous best time. Good walks by Dorey and Kevin Le Noury gave them the second and third places individually. In Doreys case helping to secure the team win over Le Noury and team mate Olga Sinkevica.

The fastest time of the day was by Stuart Le Noury in 7.24, whilst Olga Sinkevica recorded the fastest womens time  with 9.58.

The next walk is on Sunday March 29th from Albecq to North Side at 9.30 am. The distance is 7 miles for annual Chilcott Cup. Details from Jayne Le Noury lenouryjedburgh@cwgsy.net

The Sarnia Walking Club had a couple of walks over a mile this morning to enable officials to both officiate in one race and walk the other. Kevin Le Noury held off Peter Beckerleg by twenty seconds for second place with Jayne Golborne in fourth.

In the second walk Stuart Le Noury won the race, finishing less than two seconds slower than brother Jason had recorded in the first walk. His 7.16.4 was good enough for a convincing win over Phil Lockwood, with Dave Dorey getting a close third place from Mick Le Sauvage. Jayne Le Noury brought up the rear in 11.18.

Womens Champion Jayne Le Noury had to give second best in this race to Marie Macdonald. Marie, in her first season, won in 11.04, ten seconds ahead of Jayne and with continued improvement could well be a contender for next years Championships.
The Jubilee Handicap Tankard held in conjunction with the Championships was easily won by Kevin Le Noury, who had a consistant season and came out on top in the handicap section on three occasions.
The next race is on Friday August 22nd at 6.30 pm. Start and finish is near the Imperial Hotel over a hilly 3 miles course. Details from Jayne Le Noury, lenouryjedburgh@cwgsy.net.
The annual Church to Church 19.4 miles walk is coming up soon. The walk on Sunday September 7th starts and finishes at Havelet Bay and takes in a course passing all the Parish Churches. The walk is open to all over 17 years old, with full details at http://churchtochurch.wordpress.com/. The first three walkers home from last year will all be on the start line. Sarnia Walking Club Philadelphia Team Trophy 1 mile handicap road walk at Les Amarreurs, Guernsey

Triple Success for Winner

Kay Coulson had a triple reason to cheer in the Philadelphia Team Trophy, when she crossed the line first in the handicapped mile race. This was topped off with a new personal best time and a share in the team win with second walker across the line Rob Elliott and sixth placed Mick Le Sauvage.

Leading from start to finish Kay walked an actual time of 11.18 to finish three seconds ahead of Rob Elliott, who walked his best one mile race for some time. Third place went to Peter Beckerleg who knocked nine seconds off his previous best time. There was a good walk from newcomer Rita Herridge with an actual time of 11.34, which is not too far off the Guernsey age best time set by Rose Druckes.

The next walk is on Friday April 11th at 6.30 pm at Footes Lane. The event is the two miles Eric Waldron Trophy. Details from Jayne Le Noury lenouryjedburgh@cwgsy.net.

Karen Farman walks to Bob Wright Handicap win

MLS KFRace winner Karen Farman (pictured with Mick Le Sauvage) finished a clear winner in the last walk in the Bob Wright Handicap series to take the overall series win and the Bob Wright Trophy. Mick Le Sauvage had led the series going in to the walk but could only manage 10th place and his chance had gone. Second over the line was Stuart Le Noury, seventeen seconds behind the winner. His time of 7.08 was the quickest of the day and moved him into third place in the series after two out of the seven race scores were discarded. But it was close with brother Jason also scoring the same points but losing out on positional countback.

They would both have lost out to the eldest member of the Le Noury family if Kevin had been a second quicker and beaten John Dedman. His resulting extra point would have given him third place on countback, having won a race earlier in the series. Jason also lost out to his brother with his actual time of 7.22. Race winner Farman had the fastest womens actual time with a 10.21 clocking, ahead of Jayne Le Noury on 11.13

So unfortunately for Kevin Le Noury, John Dedman took third place in the race, ahead of Kevin. Newcomer Gordon Mercier walked a good race to finish with 11.19, holding off a fast finishing Phil Lockwood with 8.05. Peter Beckerleg, whose first ever race was in this event last year moved ahead of Jayne Le Noury and Mick Le Sauvage late on in the race.
The last four home managed to find themselves adrift with Rob Elliott only just breaking 9 minutes after feeling poor from the start, but overtaking Sarah Wright, Kay Coulson and Dave Dorey in the final 50 yards. It was an encouraging sized field of 14 walkers that took part on the first warmish dry day for some time.

The next race is on Sunday March 2nd at 8.30 am at Saumarez Park. It will be the first Championship race for 2014 in the Heritage Group Championship Series over a distance of 5 kilometres. Details from Jayne Le Noury lenouryjedburgh@cwgsy.net
