Stuart cruises to win

Stuart Le Noury cruised to victory in the Sarnia Walking Clubs evening race over the two lap Amarreurs course. Club members were joined by competitors from overseas who will be walking the Church to Church walk a few days later.

Stuart, with poor preparation for the race, only made the start with minutes to go, then handicapped himself with a quick visit to the roadside toilet en route to his 16.03 clocking. Donna Allan in second place just over a minute behind had the close company of Jim Ball from Southampton for half the race with Rob Elliott close behind. Donna easily pulled away in the latter stages whilst Elliott caught Ball for equal third place.

Kevin Le Noury held off fellow club member Peter Beckerleg by 26 seconds with visitor Stephen Cartwright a further four seconds behind in 20.31. Regular visitor David Hoben recorded 21.34, ahead of Sarnia stalwarts, Mick Le Sauvage, Dave Dorey and Jayne Le Noury.

Back in 12th place, and in his first event for 12 years,  was one time Sarnia member Colin Bradley from Wales, who has been a regular competitor to both walks and runs in Guernsey for many years. He now walks aided by sticks but decided to relinquish his judging duties and walked the course in a satisfying 31 minutes dead. In his prime he walked the distance in 13 minutes.

Back to their roots

Stuart Le Noury walked to a win over Rob Elliott lapping him on the line in the process as he finished in 15.33 at Cambridge Park over 3,000 metres. Phil Lockwood took third place ahead of a close race for fourth between Peter Beckerleg and Kevin Le Noury.  Peter holding the edge throughout most of the race and holding his challenger off by a second.

Leading woman was Kay Coulson in 22.25 ahead of Jayne Le Noury. For two of the walkers it was a return to the grass track at Cambridge Park after a gap of over 50 years. Making use of the temporary track whilst the Footes Lane track is being renovated and moving off the park paths, Masters walkers Dave Dorey, well into his 70s and Mick Le Sauvage almost touching 80 years old, went back to their track roots with Dave Dorey recalling the days when Sarnia Walking Club used the track for their ‘One Hour” walks amongst others.

5 kms Champ and 3 kms Graham Mann

Another personal best for Donna Allan

Stuart Le Noury and Donna Allan continue to dominate the club Championships, with both being well clear of their nearest opponents in the latest walk over 5 kilometres held on a warm and sunny morning at North Side. Overall winner Stuart dipped under 25 minutes, whilst second home Donna Allan, after a slow start in the opening lap of two which she passed in around 14.40, sped up to cross the line in 28.45 for a new personal best time removing a minute from her previous time. Third place went to Rob Elliott, well down on his recent age best , but still a minute too good for fourth placed Phil Lockwood.

Good walks from Donna and Phil gave them the first two places in the handicapped section of the race, closely followed by Kay Coulson.

A week earlier and Peter Beckerleg  claimed the individual win in the Graham Mann Team trophy over three kilometres, edging out Mick Le Sauvage. The team win went to Le Sauvage and Dave Dorey after watch times were added together. It was a close team race as the winners only had a seven seconds advantage over the second team, who in turn beat the third team by three seconds.
