Kevin Allan continues his good form

Kevin Allan continues his good form with a two minutes improvement on his previous best time for the 3 kilometres walk. Although down the field back in eighth equal place with Wendy Wilson, his performance was probably the best of the day.

A chilly morning greeted the walkers who raced over a twisty four lap course with Stuart Le Noury out on his own from the start to finish a few seconds outside of 15 minutes. Also isolated back in second place was Rob Elliott with a satisfying 16.46. Third place in the mens section went to Phil Lockwood who is slowly getting back to form after a lengthy lay off through injury last year.

Quickest of the women was Donna Allan in 17.44 in third actual position overall, ahead of Olga Le Noury and Wendy Wilson. Wendy finishing only seconds outside of her best time. Kevin Le Noury had Peter Beckerleg in close contention for most of the race, beating him to the line by seven seconds.

Kay Coulson had a good race with her 21.41, whilst Jayne Le Noury lost out to Mick Le Sauvage by only seconds.

Dave Dorey brought up the rear after fading in the second half to cross the line in 23.32.

The next race is the final event in the Bob Wright handicap series over a distance of 5 miles. It is on February 18th at 9.30 am from Lancresse to North Beach, White Rock.

Bob Wright Handicap Series Race Four

3 kilometres road walk

Cambridge Park, Guernsey

Handicap win for Wendy Wilson

Wendy Wilson moved into third place in the Bob Wright Handicap Series after the fourth of seven races, when winning the latest race over three kilometres on the twisting 950 metres lap at Cambridge Park. Her actual time was a new personal best time of 20.45, taking nine seconds off her previous best set recently.

Second place went to Kevin Le Noury moving back into form with 20.01. A good race from Kay Coulson gave her third place from Rob Elliott who walked the fastest time of the day just outside 17 minutes. He managed to reverse the order over next to finish Donna Allan who had beaten him over 10 kilometres the week before.

Donna started 20 seconds ahead of Elliott, who made up the gap easily and moved ahead in the first lap of three. He held on to his advantage until a few hundred metres from the end when Donna made the effort to move ahead and open up a gap herself before fading in the final straight where Elliott regained his position.

MIck Le Sauvage, Dave Dorey and Peter Beckerleg, the remaining walkers all finished within 14 seconds of each other on handicap.

There is now a close race in the series with four points separating the first four walkers with Mick Le Sauvage leading Donna Allan by a point followed by Wendy Wilson and Peter Beckerleg.

Le Sauvage leads Series

Mick Le Sauvage leads the Bob Wright Handicap Series after three of the seven races completed. His sixth place in the latest race gives him a two point lead over Peter Beckerleg and Donna Allan.

A windy morning greeted the walkers with the fastest Stuart Le Noury walking through the field to cross the line first from his position of last walker to start. His actual time of 14.36 gave him the handicap win from Dave Dorey. Dave’s 22.11 actual time was almost a minute up on his last performance.

Third place went to Rob Elliott only five seconds ahead of first woman Donna Allan. A closely packed race had positions 2 to 9 separated by only 35 seconds.

There were consistent times in comparison to recent walks from relative newcomers Wendy Wilson and Kevin Allan , both coping well in the conditions.

At the other end of the scale, Kevin Le Noury, with over forty years experience, walked his first race as an M60 with a time slower than expected.

1 Stuart Le Noury M 22.26 (watch time) / 7.50 (handicap) / 14.36 (actual time)

Peter Kendal Pairs Trophy 3 kilometres road walk

Les Amarreurs, Vale, Guernsey

Stuart and Wendy paired for Peter Kendal win

The pairing of Stuart Le Noury and newcomer Wendy Wilson were over a minute too good for the other teams in this perhaps unique Peter Kendal event. Second place went to Donna Allan and Olga Le Noury both walking good races, with third place going to the experienced Rob Elliott and newcomer Kevin Allan.

Wendy Wilson had the walk of the day walking much quicker than in her last few races to cover the 3 kilometres in 20.54. Stuart had the quickest time of the day at the shorter distance with a 7.20 clocking on what was a hard day to race with a head on wind up the longest part of the course. There was a smile from Wendy as this was the first time she had ever won a trophy in any sport.

Walkers are paired together with the entrants split between the faster and slower walkers in the race.

The teams start on handicap based on the slower walkers predicted times with the faster walker walking behind their teammate for half of the race, before all setting off at their own pace, resulting in a 3 kilometres result for the slower walkers and a 1.5 kilometres result for the faster. The faster walkers have their race predicted handicap added on at the finish.

Easy win for Ian Richards

Winner Ian Richards was away from the off to secure an easy win in the Sarnia Walkings Clubs race over 3 kilometres at Les Amarreurs. A hot summers evening brought a number of competitors due to race the Church to Church down to the event. Grateful thanks to those from outside Guernsey that helped out with the judging.

Whilst winner Richards was racing to a fast 14.16 clocking and breaking Ed Shillabeers all comers age best in the process, Jim Ball and Rob Elliott were swopping race positions throughout before crossing the line together in 17.15 for second place.

Local walkers Kevin Le Noury and Peter Beckerleg claimed equal fourth place ahead of Mick Le Sauvage. Regular visitor David Hoben was close behind in 7th with Kay Coulson bringing up the rear with 22.25.

Double win for Donna Allan

Donna Allan took the individual win and was part of the team win in the 50th annual Graham Mann Memorial Trophy over a handicapped start 3 kilometres. Overtaking Dave Dorey, the first walker to start, late in the race she crossed the line with a five seconds advantage and an actual time of 17.10 to smash her previous best time by over half a minute.

The team of Stuart Le Noury and Rob Elliott finished in third and fourth place but with Peter Beckerleg only a stride behind he had done enough with his team mate Donna Allan to take first place in the team section.

Sixth place went to Mick Le Sauvage who had been on the winning team almost 50 years ago in the second edition of the event. Kevin Le Noury brought the walkers home with his 19.53 actual time.

Only 19 seconds separated the three teams at the end.

Osmond Priaulx, Footes Lane, Guernsey

Second win for Donna

Donna Allan scored her second win in the Bob Wright Handicap Series after three races to head the series overall. She smashed her previous best time set recently and recorded the fastest womens time in Guernsey for the last seven years.

Donnas first walk was in the recent Church to Church walk in September, which she entered late in the day and has showed good form since, taking to the event with ease. Her actual time of 17.41 gave her the handicap win over Dave Dorey (pictured moving into the final laps) by 17 seconds, who finished just ahead of a fast finishing Stuart Le Noury. Stuart was showing a good return to form with his 14.17 time being the fastest of the day. dsc_0302

Fourth place went to Rob Elliott, followed by Kevin Le Noury and Peter Beckerleg who both walked well on a sunny November day with a slight wind.Mick Le Sauvage got the better of Marie Macdonald, both walking close actual times of 20.25 and 20.33 respectively. Jayne Le Noury walking her usual consistent walk despite carrying an injury got the better of Phil Lockwood. Olga Le Noury brought the field home with a time of 20.12.

The next walk is on Sunday November 20th at 9.30 am at the old Quayside premises on North Side. The distances are either 5 or 10 kilometres.

Peter Kendal Pairs Trophy

3 kms handicap road walk

Les Amarreurs, Vale, Guernsey

Close finish in team event

The annual Peter Kendal team trophy was a decided by a close race between the first three teams with only 31 seconds separating them once the handicap times had been added on.

The novelty race is between teams of two walkers, drawn together from a fast group of walkers and a slower group, walking together for the first 1.5 kilometres lap, before the faster walkers are allowed to race at their own pace for the next lap with team mates continuing at their pace.

Teams are started on handicap from the slower walkers 3 kilometres predicted times, with the faster walkers handicap added on at the end after their 1.5 kilometres effort. Sounds complicated but it works.

Mick Le Sauvage and Olga Le Noury emerged as winners from Kay Coulson and Donna Allan by 28 seconds, with Jayne and Kevin Le Noury a few seconds back in third place.

Fastest of the walkers doing the 3 kilometres was Peter Beckerleg in 19.52 from Mick Le Sauvage in 20.08 with Kay Coulson with a personal best time of 20.32 in third place.

In the 1.5 kilometres race after walkers had stayed with their team mates for the first lap, Stuart Le Noury finished in 7.16. Second quickest was Rob Elliott in 8.19.

The walk of the day was by Donna Allan who is still getting used to the event after only a handful of races, recording a swift 8.46 for third place. She also recorded 19.17 for the full distance after walking the first lap with Kay Coulson, who relishes this type of competition. Officially only her 1.5 kms time will count in Sarnia records but still a 3 kms time to note.

Past competitor Darren Lynch on holiday from his home in South Africa came down to visit the older walkers and recalled that this Peter Kendal trophy was the first one that he won with Mick Le Sauvage back in 1980. In those days the event was contested between teams consisting of one senior over 17 years walker and one junior under 17.

Cambridge Park, Guernsey

Double for Stuart

Stuart Le Noury scored two easy wins in the Sarnia Walking Club events held on new courses at Cambridge Park. Facing leaves and acorns on the ground, freshly fallen from the windy conditions the night before, 11 walkers started the longer walk.

Trialling the lap of 600 metres for the first time, Stuart had the company of brother Jason for two laps as they crossed the line in 6.39, after an opening 3.19. Jason pulled out of the race at this point with reoccurring injury, whilst Stuart increased his speed over the next three laps with 3.19, 3.14 and a closing lap of 2.57 for a final time of 16.08.

Second home was Kevin Le Noury in 20.14 followed by Marie Macdonald and Donna Allan in 20.45 and 20.48 respectively.

Marie had opened up a gap of eight seconds on Donna with a lap to go, cut to three by the finish.

Peter Beckerleg again got the better of Mick Le Sauvage with his 21.23, who in turn held off the third woman home Kay Coulson. An out of sorts OLga Le Noury finished in 22.11 with Jayne Le Noury, losing time removing a stone from her shoe on the first lap, just falling short of catching last man home Dave Dorey.

In the shorter walk over 1.5 kilometres on a 750 metres lap, Stuart recorded 8.05, another one to fall victim of a stone in his shoe, with Rob Elliott in 8.22 taking second place. Fastest of the women was Donna Allan 11.06 ahead of Kay Coulson in 11.12. Jayne Le Noury reversed the positions of the first race beating Dave Dorey by a minute.

The next walk is on Sunday October 30th at 9.30 am at Les Amarreurs. The distance is 3 kilometres for the Peter Kendal Pairs Trophy.
