Stuart ends race walking year with win

Stuart Le Noury ended the local race walking year with an easy victory from second placed Phil Lockwood, crossing the line in 27.49. The walkers were competing in the hilly 3 miles lap starting at the Imperial Hotel and going to Torteval Church before dropping back to the coast road.

A seemingly relaxed approach was taken by the rest of the field as they crossed the line in pairs.

Rob Elliott opted to walk with Donna Allan in her first race on this course and they finished in third place. Year long race rivals Olga and Kevin Le Noury finished together in 34.36, with Kay Coulson and Mick Le Sauvage a further minute behind.

Stuart Le Noury had an easy win in the Sarnia Walking Clubs 3 miles road walk on the hilly 3 miles Rocquaine circuit. Out in front from the start at the Imperial Hotel, up the lanes to Torteval Church before dropping back to the coast road at the “cup and saucer” and then back towards the start, he crossed the line over two minutes ahead of second man home Rob Elliott.

Walking her first race as a Le Noury, Olga held off Kevin Le Noury by a few seconds to claim third place overall and fastest woman. The walk of the day was by Kay Coulson in a personal best time of 34.38 and well ahead of third woman Jayne Le Noury.

The next walk is on Friday September 2nd at Les Amarreurs at 6.30 pm  over a distance of 3 kilometres. It is a warm up event for the Church to Church 19.4 miles road walk being held on Sunday September 4th at 9.00 am. All are welcome to compete in either walk. Defeat for Mens Club Champion

Sarnia Walking Club Champion Stuart Le Noury lost out in the final downhill mile to brother Jason after they had been close together for the majority of the race. The course, which takes in a stiff uphill mile from the coast at Rocquaine to Torteval Church before dropping back to the coast suited the winner better than than his closest rival.

The winners time was slower than his best on this course, but at 25.04 was 11 seconds ahead of Stuart, who set himself a personal best for the race. Indeed, eight of the walkers set new best times for the course which has only been raced on a few times, perhaps now getting used to how to pace themselves over the various hills.

Third man home Phil Lockwood in 27.44 had his best race for a while, well ahead of fourth home Kevin Le Noury in 31.38. First woman home Olga Sinkevica in 33.09 showed a huge improvement on her first effort on this course. A close fight for 6th place was won by Peter Beckerleg, literally strides ahead of young Alex Sinkevics and Dave Dorey, with Mick Le Sauvage and Marie Macdonald a further few seconds back. Third woman home was Kay Coulson ahead of Jayne Le Noury.

The next race is on Friday September 4th at 6.30 pm over 3 kilometres at Les Amarreurs, Vale. Days later on Sunday September 6th at 9.00 am the club hold the annual Church to Church 19.4 miles road walk, starting and finishing at South Esplanade. All are welcome to take part. Stuart wins last race of 2014

It turned out to be an easy win in the end for Stuart Le Noury as he crossed the line in 25.47, some fifty seconds ahead of Rob Elliott, after walking a swift last mile on the downhill section of the hilly course. The course which starts at the Imperial Hotel and takes in a climb through the lanes to Torteval Church, saw Le Noury at the head of the field, tracked some 20 metres down by Elliott, who was having his best walk for some time. The gap stayed the same until almost the 2 mile point where the course drops down to the coast at Rocquaine, from where Elliott, who though strong was caught lacking for speed as Le Noury disappeared into the distance. Elliott, with perhaps the walk of the day removed two and a half minutes off his time set on this course in August. Third place went to Kevin Le Noury in 33 minutes. The leading woman was Marie Macdonald in 34.25, ahead of Jayne Le Noury and newcomer Olga Sinkevicha.

The next walk is on Sunday January 11th over a distance of 10 kilometres, starting at 9.30 am at Quayside, North Side. It is the 5th race in the Bob Wright Handicap Series. Details from Jayne Le Noury lenouryjedburgh@cwgsy.net.

Course best for Jason Le Noury

Jason Le Noury won the Sarnia Walking Clubs 3 miles road walk over the hilly Rocquaine bay circuit from brother Stuart. His winning time of 24.45 was a 25 seconds improvement on his time when the club first used the course last year.

From the start near the Imperial Hotel and up Le Valniquet and through to Torteval Church, there was little between the two as they passed the mile point in around nine minutes. Stuart was to lose ground in the next mile as Jason went 50 seconds faster, using the flatter sections to his advantage. A final mile of around 7.30, on the mainly down hill section back to the coast saw him stretch his lead, with Stuart eventually finishing almost a minute behind.

Phil Lockwood finished in third place in 28.56 after handicapping himself by inexplicably going off course before Rob Elliott shouted out to him and got him back on route. Rob walked steadily and to show the variants in terrain  he walked mile splits of 10.30, 9.40 and 9.00.

Quickest of the women was Kay Coulson in 36.46, followed by Jayne Golborne in 39.13. The next race is on Friday September 5th at 6.30 pm at Les Amarreurs, Vale over a distance of 3 kilometres. This is followed by the Church to Church Walk over 19.4 miles on Sunday September 7th at 9.00 am. Details from Jayne Le Noury, lenouryjedburgh@cwgsy.net.

3 miles road walk

Sunday October 6th 2013

3 miles road walk

Le Nourys head the field

Hot conditions greeted the walkers who were trying out a new 3 mile course at Rocquaine. Starting near the Imperial Hotel, there was a hard climb up to Torteval Church, via the lanes, before levelling out for a short distance and then dropping down to the coast again before heading to the finish at Rocquaine Bay.
A slower than usual first mile was expected and it was the two Le Noury brothers at the head of the race, with Stuart making the early pace. Jason, the eventual winner, timed himself unofficially on his garmin at 9.21 for the first mile, moving on to an 8.20 second mile before opening up on the helpful down hill last mile with a 7.20 clocking to cross the line in an official 25.10. This time was on par with his normal pace for this sort of distance despite the hilly terrain.
Close behind was Stuart Le Noury in 25.28 with Phil Lockwood taking third place in 29.03.
Fastest of the women was Jayne Le Noury in 35.39, who had a close race with male walker John Dedman for much of the race before edging ahead in the final stages. Kay Coulson took second place amongst the women with 36.36, ahead of Rose Druckes.
Mick Le Sauvage walked well to finish only five seconds behind Peter Beckerleg, the hills obviously suiting him. This time was close to his age best time set on the much flatter L`ancresse course.
The next race is on Sunday October 20th at Delancey Park at 9.30 am. The distance is a handicapped 10 kilometres and is the second walk in the Bob Wright Handicap Series. Details from Jayne Le Noury lenouryjedburgh@cwgsy.net

Le Noury ends year with another win

The final walk of the year for the Sarnia Walking Club was over 3 miles at Les Amarreurs, with Stuart Le Noury claiming victory in 26.19, twenty six seconds ahead of Phil Lockwood. Stuart set off at 8.05 for the first mile, 40 seconds up on Lockwood. Suffering from a stitch on the second lap Stuarts pace dropped considerably to allow Phil to close to 21 seconds, before virtually holding the gap to the final finish time.
Third place went to Terry Bates in 28.33, who started with a conservative first lap and picked up the pace for the final two to secure a new Guernsey Age Best time, beating the old one set in 1997 by Ossie Naftel, by over two minutes.
Jane Rowlinson was the quickest of the women with 33.22, ahead of Jayne Le Noury at 34.10 and Rose Druckes 36.51. Jane`s winning time was a new personal best time for 3 miles and indicates that a new best time for the slightly longer 5 kilometres is well within reach in the near future. Jane Rowlinson had the company of Mick Le Sauvage for the first two laps before pulling away in the final mile, whilst Jayne Le Noury managed to walk the final mile a second quicker than the winning woman, to marginally close the gap.
The next race is on Sunday January 6th 2013 at Footes Lane over 3,000 metres at 9.30 am. It is the 5th race in the Bob Wright Handicap Series. Details from Jayne Le Noury lenouryjedburgh@cwgsy.net

Stuart Le Noury ends year on a high

Race winner Stuart Le Noury ended Sarnia Walking Clubs 2011 programme with a new personal best time of 23.29, beating his best set in January by 39 seconds. He finished well ahead of second man home Phil Lockwood. Kevin Le Noury got the better of wife Jayne to take third place. A small field of six walkers was the result of usual walkers being off island or work tied in the lead up to the Christmas holidays.
The club still put on races for the imperial distances so walkers can compare their times with those set by club walkers of the past. In the past there were more walks at the 3 miles distance than at 5,000 metres (170 odd metres longer). Stuarts time today compares well with his recent 5,000 metres best of 24.24. The 3 miles performance being on a par with his 5,000 metres and gets him into the Guernsey Top 10 at 3 miles.
Rankings for both 3 miles and 5,000 metres are reproduced below.
The next walk is on Sunday January 8th 2012 at 9.30 am at Footes Lane. The distance is 3,000 metres and is the fifth race in the Bob Wright Handicap Series. Details from Jayne Le Noury, tel 246865.
