5 kms Champ and 3 kms Graham Mann

Another personal best for Donna Allan

Stuart Le Noury and Donna Allan continue to dominate the club Championships, with both being well clear of their nearest opponents in the latest walk over 5 kilometres held on a warm and sunny morning at North Side. Overall winner Stuart dipped under 25 minutes, whilst second home Donna Allan, after a slow start in the opening lap of two which she passed in around 14.40, sped up to cross the line in 28.45 for a new personal best time removing a minute from her previous time. Third place went to Rob Elliott, well down on his recent age best , but still a minute too good for fourth placed Phil Lockwood.

Good walks from Donna and Phil gave them the first two places in the handicapped section of the race, closely followed by Kay Coulson.

A week earlier and Peter Beckerleg  claimed the individual win in the Graham Mann Team trophy over three kilometres, edging out Mick Le Sauvage. The team win went to Le Sauvage and Dave Dorey after watch times were added together. It was a close team race as the winners only had a seven seconds advantage over the second team, who in turn beat the third team by three seconds.

Elliott and Allan open Championships with a win.

Rob Elliott opened up the Sarnia Walking Club 2019 Championship with a winning 28.49 clocking over 5 kilometres, ahead of second placed and leading woman Donna Allan with 30.58. Elliott, celebrating his birthday and moving up into the M60 age group, surprised himself with his best time for three years and in the process broke the Guernsey age best time set by Terry Bates back in 2011. A seven minute dead time for the first of the four laps gave him a good start which was followed by laps of 7.13, 7.19 and 7.17.

Second and third places were taken by walkers who have entered marathons in the next few months, second placed Donna in London and third placed Phil Lockwood in Brighton. Fourth place went to Kevin Le Noury ahead of Kay Coulson who claimed the handicap win. Next home was Mick Le Sauvage , one race away from his 8,000 miles milestone with Dave Dorey bringing home the field.

Kevin Allan and Jayne Le Noury both succumbed to injuries and completed around half the distance.

Third place went to Peter Beckerleg. Rob Elliott, back in sixth place walked the fastest time of the day with his 29.38, ahead of Donna Allan in 30.20.

Stuart Le Noury wins again

Stuart Le Noury was first over the line in the Sarnia Walking Clubs 5 kilometres walk at Cambridge Park. After his slower opening kilometres with two kilometres reached in 10.29, he increased the pace to record 5.09, 5.02 and 4.59 for the final three to cross the line in 25.39. Isolated second and third places went to Phil Lockwood in 32.46 and Kevin Le Noury 34.35.

The race for fourth was won by Peter Beckerleg, who had the close company of Dave Dorey for more than half of the race. Dorey looked like getting caught by Mick Le Sauvage with one kilometre to go but perhaps sensing the challenge increased his pace to pull clear by ten seconds at the finish for fifth place.

The two women Olga and Jayne Le Noury strolled around the course together in just over 42 minutes.

The next walk is the first race in the Bob Wright Handicap Series over a distance of 5 kilometres at Saumarez Park at 9.00 am on Sunday September 30th. All are welcome to come and have a go.

Third place went to Phil Lockwood who continues to get back towards his old form, removing another minute off his last race at the distance. All competitors managed to improve on their last race, making the most of the warm evening conditions.

Remarkably in the handicap section of the event the finishing order was the same as in the actual race.

Next home was Peter Beckerleg in 35.08, with Dave Dorey holding off Mick Le Sauvages late effort for 6th place. Second woman home was Jayne Le Noury in 37.41.

In the handicapped section held in conjunction with the Championships, Dave Dorey with a big improvement on his expected time was an easy winner from Jayne Le Noury and Mick Le Sauvage.

Winner Stuart Le Noury and Hilary Mann of Sparkhill Harriers race walked the recent Guernsey Easter road runs over 5 and 10 kilometres. Stuart walking 25.53 and 54.19 respectively, whilst Hilary did 33.09 and 68.11. Both races attracting over 210 finishers.

Bob Wright Handicap Series Race 5

5 kilometres road walk

North Side, Vale, Guernsey

Personal Best for race winner

Race winner Kevin Allan, set off first in the fifth race of the Bob Wright Handicap Series, crossed the line in a new personal best time of 37.52, removing around two minutes off his previous time. Over a minute behind in the handicapped race was Stuart Le Noury who only just failed to walk through the field from his position of back marker with an actual time of 26.11.

The race, held on the two lap course around Vale Castle had walkers brought to an almost standstill for some of the route, affecting some more than others. Kevin Le Noury in third seemed to deny the conditions with a good walk, holding off Phil Lockwood who was competing for the first time since August. Two women had good races with 5th placed Jayne Le Noury up on her last race and 7th placed Wendy Wilson very close to her recent personal best time. Sandwiched between these two was Peter Beckerleg.

Kay Coulson held off the faster finishing Rob Elliott and Donna Allan. Rob having made up the 45 seconds handicap on Donna making the most of the head on windy conditions which he could see was blowing Donna around. The helpful wind in the final straight enabling him to push open past Donna in the final metres. Evergreens Mick Le Sauvage and Dave Dorey bringing up the rear of a good sized local field.

After five races in the Bob Wright Series and with two to go there is still everything to walk for. With the two lowest scores disregarded we have 7 walkers separated by only four points.

1 Kevin Allan M40 37.52 (watch time) / 0.00 (handicap) / 37.52 (actual time)

2 Stuart Le Noury M 38.56 / 12.45 / 26.11
