Jayne wins fathers trophy

Jayne Le Noury won the Bob Wright handicap series trophy, named in honour of her father for the 5th time, after the seven race series finished with a 3 kilometres walk at Cambridge Park. In good weather conditions for the time of year, she couldn’t end the series with a race win but did enough to keep the eventual second placed walker overall a few points adrift. Stuart Le Noury, second overall didn’t quite walk through the field from his back marker position but had a good go at it managing third place in the race, falling short of catching race winner Peter Beckerleg and Mick Le Sauvage.

Stuarts time of 14.36 was the quickest actual time of the day, passing second and third quickest Rob Elliott, 17.12 and Donna Allan 17.43 in the final 100 metres. There were plenty of positional changes in the final 100 or so metres with six walkers finishing within 21 seconds of each other. Five of those finishing in a 9 second gap.

Race winner Stuart Le Noury walked through the field of walkers from his back marker position to claim a new personal best over the 5 miles distance. On a crisp winters morning with very little wind, he walked an actual time of 41.03 narrowly beating his old best time. Defending series winner Kevin Allan held on to second place holding off wife Donna who finished nine seconds behind. Donnas time of 47.49 was not too far off her time set last year which was the best time set by a Guernsey woman.

Rob Elliott, back in fourth closed down on Donna Allan who had a minutes handicap start in the first few miles, but could not close the final 10 or so seconds. As the gap slowly decreased Stuart Le Noury went past Elliott and then Donna, who upped her speed to hang on to Le Noury for a while and reopen the gap.

Fifth place went to Kevin Le Noury ahead of Kay Coulson who just managed to break the hour barrier as did Peter Beckerleg in seventh. Mick Le Sauvage was next home and edged closer to his 8,000th mile of race walking. Phil Lockwood brought the race to an end with his 57.33 clocking.

With one race to go and allowing for the two races that can be discarded in the seven race series, Jayne Le Noury, who had a very rare “did not finish” for todays race is set up as favourite with son Stuart the nearest challenger.

Kevin Allan wins Bob Wright Series

Kevin Allan did enough in the final race of the Bob Wright Handicap Series to depose wife Donna of the title she won last year. Kevin, in his first 5 mile race held on to the lead in the handicapped event until in sight of the finish when Donna swept past him to take the family honours in the race. They can now decide to agree that both had the race of the day.

Donna took the win in the final event in 47.23 actual time to finish 17 seconds ahead of husband Kevin whose actual time was 57.10. Almost a minute further back was Rob Elliott who recorded the fastest  time of the day with his 47.18. Starting 1.15 behind Donna he made up a small gap in the early miles before having to keep an eye on her back as her lead increased towards the end but managed to keep the gap just small enough.

With knowledge of the fastest 5 miles time set by a Guernsey woman being Jenny Elliotts 1999 time of 48.18 Donna had a target which she duly broke by 55 seconds and in doing so took two minutes off her personal best time set last year.

It was these three walker that finished in the leading positions in the final Bob Wright table, with Kevin in first place with Donna three points behind. Elliott held on to third place on count back after recording equal points with Bob Wrights daughter Jayne Le Noury.

Handicap win for Wendy Wilson

Wendy Wilson moved into third place in the Bob Wright Handicap Series after the fourth of seven races, when winning the latest race over three kilometres on the twisting 950 metres lap at Cambridge Park. Her actual time was a new personal best time of 20.45, taking nine seconds off her previous best set recently.

Second place went to Kevin Le Noury moving back into form with 20.01. A good race from Kay Coulson gave her third place from Rob Elliott who walked the fastest time of the day just outside 17 minutes. He managed to reverse the order over next to finish Donna Allan who had beaten him over 10 kilometres the week before.

Donna started 20 seconds ahead of Elliott, who made up the gap easily and moved ahead in the first lap of three. He held on to his advantage until a few hundred metres from the end when Donna made the effort to move ahead and open up a gap herself before fading in the final straight where Elliott regained his position.

MIck Le Sauvage, Dave Dorey and Peter Beckerleg, the remaining walkers all finished within 14 seconds of each other on handicap.

There is now a close race in the series with four points separating the first four walkers with Mick Le Sauvage leading Donna Allan by a point followed by Wendy Wilson and Peter Beckerleg.

Le Sauvage leads Series

Mick Le Sauvage leads the Bob Wright Handicap Series after three of the seven races completed. His sixth place in the latest race gives him a two point lead over Peter Beckerleg and Donna Allan.

A windy morning greeted the walkers with the fastest Stuart Le Noury walking through the field to cross the line first from his position of last walker to start. His actual time of 14.36 gave him the handicap win from Dave Dorey. Dave’s 22.11 actual time was almost a minute up on his last performance.

Third place went to Rob Elliott only five seconds ahead of first woman Donna Allan. A closely packed race had positions 2 to 9 separated by only 35 seconds.

There were consistent times in comparison to recent walks from relative newcomers Wendy Wilson and Kevin Allan , both coping well in the conditions.

At the other end of the scale, Kevin Le Noury, with over forty years experience, walked his first race as an M60 with a time slower than expected.
