Piette Trophy

3.8 miles handicap walk

Rocquaine Bay, Guernsey

From last to first

Scratch walker Dave Dorey may well have thought he was on his way to another Piette Trophy handicap win over 3.8 miles as he still led the race along the Rocquaine coast road with a couple of hundred yards still to go. Peter Beckerleg thought otherwise as he sidestepped Dave and overtook him to gain the lead and head for the win himself. But with the sound of fast closing footsteps he had to give second best to last man to start Stuart Le Noury who crossed the line first with an actual time of 30.34.

Beckerleg held on to second place with no response from the long time leader Dorey.

Last years winner Rob Elliott finished close to his time of last year but found himself back in fourth place. First woman home was Olga Le Noury beating her old best time and finishing in under 43 minutes, ahead of second woman Kay Coulson. Husband and wife Kevin and Jayne Le Noury finished in seventh and eight places.

The next walk is the 9th race in the Heritage Championships over a distance of 10 kilometres at Delancey Park at 9.30 am. It will soon be the longest walk in the clubs calendar when walkers take part in the annual Church to Church Walk over 19.4 miles on September 3rd. SAM_3401Dave leads from start to finish.

Dave Dorey (left) walked to victory in the the fourth annual Sean Pender (right) Trophy handicap race with an untroubled win. Set off first he had his best race for some time with the rest off the field unable to get near him.

Rob Elliott, second across the line, thought momentarily that the win was his as he closed in on Mick Le Sauvage and Jayne Le Noury with 100 metres to go before noticing that Dave was well ahead and metres from the finish. He finished 23 seconds behind the winner with third placed Donna Allan a few seconds behind. Donna recorded another personal best time over the distance, staying relatively close to Elliott after he had made up his 15 seconds handicap within the first lap.

Stuart Le Noury recorded the fastest time of the day in 6th place with an actual time of 9.34. Phil Lockwood got the better of Kevin Le Noury for seventh, whilst race sponsor Sean Pender brought up the rear. Thanks go to visitor Sean Pender whose name the race is under but also supplies awards to the first three to finish and the fastest male and female walkers on the day.

Stuart wins 7 miles Chilcott Cup

Stuart Le Noury easily broke seven miles in the hour to record another win in the annual Channel Island Ceramics Chilcott Cup. On a clear warm morning he strode out from the start at Albecq and crossed the line at North Side in 58.30.

A close finish for second place was won by the experienced Rob Elliott from relative newcomer Donna Allan. Walking at a faster pace over a similar distance than her recent 10 kilometres personal best, she caught Elliott with half a mile to go and opened up a few seconds gap around the Vale Castle and heading down to the long straight finish at North Side.

A still confident Elliott held the gap for a while before catching and moving away in the final yards. The one hour mark for 10 kilometres gets closer for Donna.

Olga Le Noury held off Kevin Le Noury for fourth place.

Kay Coulson in 6th place had a good race finishing in 1.20.30 and backed up her performance in England last week where she set a new personal best time of 1.12.09 over 10 kilometres. The event was the Cecil Gittins Memorial race at Gravesend where she finished as 6th woman.

Back to the local event and Mick Le Sauvage held off Peter Beckerleg by a few minutes with Jayne Le Noury bringing the race to a close.
