Defending Champion opens Heritage Championships with win

Stuart Le Noury opened up the Sarnia Walking Clubs Heritage Group Championships with an easy win over 5 kilometres as he crossed the line in 25.17. An early challenge from Rob Elliott over the first of four laps in which both walkers were heading for a sub 25 minutes time came to nothing as an old injury curtailed his effort, leading to him strolling the rest of the race. Third place went to Phil Lockwood in 30.01, whose target in the next few months is walking the London Marathon. Kevin Le Noury managed to hold off the leading woman with his 33.25, ahead of Peter Beckerleg and Mick Le Sauvage. Dave Dorey lost out in a sprint with Kay Coulson as he finished 7th in the mens section ahead of Alan Roger who was making a recent return to the event and newcomer Brandon Bell.

The performances of the day were by Olga Sinkevica who was the first woman home in 33.49 with a big improvement on her last race over the slightly shorter 3 miles distance and fourth placed Kay Coulson with a new personal best time by 37 seconds. Second home was Marie Macdonald in 34.51 in her first race over the distance, followed by Jayne Le Noury. Completing the field were Karen Farman and Sarah Wright who crossed the line together in 40.49.

Win number 2 for Olga

Rob Elliott probably made himself favourite to win The Bob Wright Series with one more race remaining. For the fourth time in the seven race series he crossed the finish line in second place as he closed in fast on the winner Olga Sinkevica who held him off by five seconds, and claimed another win in the series. Finishing with an actual time of 19.45, Olga was the quickest of the women, closely followed by Marie Macdonald in 20.00 and Karen Farman in 20.01. The latter two were together for most of the race before Marie edged ahead in the final metres, to take third and fourth places in the handicapped race. Both walkers were rewarded with new personal best times. The fastest time of the day was by Stuart Le Noury in 14.07, a time close to his best, followed by Elliott with 15.20 and his best time for 10 years. The final race in the series is over a mile on February 15th with any walker hoping to dislodge Elliott from his current first place needing to put a large number of walkers between themselves and him.

The next race is on Sunday February 8th at 9.30 am at Delancey Park with a choice of walking either 5 or 10 kilometres. Details from Jayne Le Noury lenouryjedburgh@cwgsy.net.

Bob Wright Handicap Series Race 5

10 kilometres road walk

Quayside, North Side, Guernsey

Scratch walker stays at the front

Olga Sinkevica, one of the scratch walkers was never headed as she won the fifth race in the Bob Wright Handicap Series over 10 kilometres. The closest walker to her in second place was Rob Elliott who finished over one and a half minutes down on handicap as he raced to a 54.52 actual time clocking, his fastest time for 10 years. His last few times have been well outside the hour mark, so was a considerable improvement down to his recent training routine. He still holds the Guernsey record for the distance set over 30 years ago.

Kay Coulson in third place recorded a new personal best time by over 3 minutes with an actual time of 1.15.10 to hold off fourth placed Kevin Le Noury who walked a good race. There were also new best times for Marie Macdonald who removed 50 seconds, Karen Farman by minutes and Peter Beckerleg by 26 seconds.

The fastest times of the day were set by Olga Sinkevica in the womens section with 71.20, almost a minute ahead of Marie Macdonald and Stuart Le Nourys 54.18 in the mens, just beating the time set by Elliott who had crossed the line around eight minutes earlier. Phil Lockwood had a sub par race after time out recently with injury.

The next walk is on Sunday January 25th at Les Amarreurs over a distance of 3 kilometres, in the sixth race of the series, starting at 9.30 am. Details from Jayne Le Noury at lenouryjedburgh@cwgsy.net.

Hilly 3 mile road walk

Sunday December 28th 2014

Sarnia Walking Club

3 miles road walk

Rocquaine Circuit, Guernsey

Stuart wins last race of 2014

It turned out to be an easy win in the end for Stuart Le Noury as he crossed the line in 25.47, some fifty seconds ahead of Rob Elliott, after walking a swift last mile on the downhill section of the hilly course. The course which starts at the Imperial Hotel and takes in a climb through the lanes to Torteval Church, saw Le Noury at the head of the field, tracked some 20 metres down by Elliott, who was having his best walk for some time. The gap stayed the same until almost the 2 mile point where the course drops down to the coast at Rocquaine, from where Elliott, who though strong was caught lacking for speed as Le Noury disappeared into the distance. Elliott, with perhaps the walk of the day removed two and a half minutes off his time set on this course in August. Third place went to Kevin Le Noury in 33 minutes. The leading woman was Marie Macdonald in 34.25, ahead of Jayne Le Noury and newcomer Olga Sinkevicha.

The next walk is on Sunday January 11th over a distance of 10 kilometres, starting at 9.30 am at Quayside, North Side. It is the 5th race in the Bob Wright Handicap Series. Details from Jayne Le Noury lenouryjedburgh@cwgsy.net.

Jason ends brothers winning streak

The winning streak of eight Le Val des Terres Hill Climbs wins by Stuart Le Noury was finally broken by his brother Jason as the younger brother walked the hill five seconds quicker in 4.50. Walkers are set off at one minute intervals against the clock and not in direct competition with each other and Stuart having walked up could only watch as Jason crossed the line that bit quicker. Third place went to Rob Elliott, with his quickest time for a good few years in 5.21. Womens champion Karen Farman, walked ten seconds faster than winning in 2013 with 6.26  but was beaten in 2014 by Marie Macdonald and her time of 6.15. Third place went to Olga Sinkevicha, walking her first race, with 6.47, just ahead of Kay Coulson, who set a new personal best time of 6.51.

The race marked the 50th anniversary of the Sarnia Walking Clubs formation back in 1964, with the annual hill climb race for the Rob Waterman Shield starting a few years later. The next walk is on Sunday December 28th over a distance of 3 miles on the new Rocquaine Bay Circuit starting at 9.30 am. Details from Jayne Le Noury lenouryjedburgh@cwgsy.net.

Bob Wright Handicap Series Race 4

2,000 metres track

Osmond Priaulx Playing Fields, Footes Lane, Guernsey

Three ladies set new personal best times

The fourth event in the Sarnia Walking Clubs Bob Wright Handicap Series over 2,000 metres saw a number of new personal best times set on the track. The races were split into two with the second race providing the overall winner. Kay Coulson removed over 30 seconds off her previous best time and stopped the clock at 14.16, with an actual time of 13.46. She was followed home some distance behind by Jayne Le Noury, closely followed by Peter Beckerleg finishing inches ahead of Marie Macdonald, who took a minute off her previous best walk. Kevin Le Noury bringing up the rear of the field. The first race was won by Karen Farman, another walker with a big time improvement as she held off a fast finishing Rob Elliott. Dave Dorey edged out Mick Le Sauvage for third place, with the two walkers recording the fastest times of the day, the Le Noury brothers finishing back in 5th and 6th place.

The resulting combined race times saw two women tie for second place and four walkers in the middle of the field split by less than a second. The next walk is on Sunday December 14th at Le Val des Terres for the annual Hill Climb Walk at 9.00 am. It is also the day the Sarnia Walking Club celebrates its 50th anniversary, since its formation in December 1964. Details from Jayne Le Noury lenouryjedburgh@cwgsy.net.

Peter Kendal Pairs Trophy

3 kms and 1.5 kms road walk at Les Amarreurs, Vale

Kay Coulson scores team win and personal best

The Sarnia Walking Clubs Peter Kendal Trophy involves teams of two walkers racing together on a handicapped basis. Walkers have to walk together for the first lap of two before the faster walkers can break away at their own speed for their 1.5 kilometres effort, with the slower walkers carrying on to complete 3 kilometres. The winners are decided by the final times being added together after the completion of the two laps.

The winning team of Kay Coulson and Stuart Le Noury (photos by Olga Sinkevicha) was helped immensely by Kay breaking her four years old personal best time by 15 seconds. A close fight for second place and only 33 seconds behind the winners, resulted in Karen Farman and Peter Beckerleg being edged out by Jayne Le Noury and Mick Le Sauvage by three seconds.

The next race is on Sunday November 16th at Footes Lane at 9.30 am over a distance of 3,000 metres. The event is the third race in the Bob Wright Handicap Series. Details from Jayne Le Noury, lenouryjedburgh@cwgsy.net
