Win 13 for Stuart

Stuart Le Noury, with no serious challengers, secured his 13th win in the annual Le Val des Terres Hill Climb over 815 metres for the Rob Waterman Shield. He again dipped under the 5 minutes barrier with a 4.55 walk held on a fresh, almost wind free morning. Walked at one minute intervals, giving the walkers an individual time trial, it was Kevin Le Noury with 6.13 taking second place, with a rare win over third placed Rob Elliott.

Kay Coulson, eleven seconds quicker than last year, took home the Ladies Shield with 7.25. Dave Dorey completed the small field with his 8.04.

Opening Yorkshire Guernsey Championship win for Stuart

Stuart Le Noury opened the Sarnia Walking Club Championships for 2008 with a convincing win in the Yorkshire Guernsey sponsored series. He led from start to finish to smash his previous best time by almost one minute.

A fast start, passing the first kilometre in 4.50 and the second at the same speed, saw him well ahead of his nearest challenger Jason Le Noury. Slowing over the latter half of the race Stuart held on to dip under 25 minutes.

Third place for the majority of the race was held by Phil Lockwood, with past Champion Rob Elliott within striking distance. Lockwood passed the 3 kilometres point in close to his best time for that distance and as Elliott had hoped would then slow down. Things went to plan and Lockwood was overtaken with 500 metres to go. He held on well to finish only two seconds down on Elliott who claimed third place. Lockwoods reward was a new personal best by almost a minute in 27.44.

Jayne Le Noury took first place in the Womens Championship, leaving Rose Druckes in second place. Jayne improved her recent Guernsey Age Best by 24 seconds.

The next walk is on Friday April 18th at Delancey Park. It is over 5 kilometres, starting at 6.45 pm. All are welcome. Further details from Jayne Le Noury, tel: 246865.

Stuart with Eric Waldron Trophy 2008
Stuart Le Noury recorded his first Eric Waldron 2 miles win when beating brother Jason into second place. A new personal best by Jason was not good enough for him to retain the trophy he won in 2004, 2005 and 2007.
Stuarts winning time of 15.49 put him 29 seconds ahead of Jason, with Terry Bates a further 19 seconds behind that in third place.
Fastest of the women was Carol Bates who got the better of Rose Druckes by 11seconds with Karen Sheppard third woman home.
The next walk is on Sunday April 6th over 5 kilometres. The start time is 9.30 am at Osmond Priaulx Playing Fields, Footes Lane. It is the first walk of seven in the “Yorkshire Guernsey” sponsored Sarnia Walking Club Championships. Further details from Jayne Le Noury Tel 246865.

7 miles rankings

Filed under: Chilcott Cup, news — sarnia @ 10:13 pm

It has been some years since Guernsey have had a new name finishing a 7 miles walk in under the hour. Stuart Le Noury has shown he could be close with his recent 10 kilometres races, moving on to the list just ahead of veteran walker Terry Bates. Top of the list is myself just edging out Len Duquemin, closely followed by John Moullin and Carl Thomson.Myself and Len both lay claim to having broken 51 minutes , based on average times, in longer walks. Head of the womens list is Jenny Elliott (then Tostevin) whilst still in 4th place is Jayne Le Noury who this year broke her 1982 time.

Stuart hits 7 miles per hour
British club racewalkers in the recent past aimed at breaking the hour at least once in their career. In Guernsey there is still a once a year chance to achieve this in the Chilcott Cup over the 7 miles course between Albecq and North Side.
In windy conditions Stuart Le Noury headed the field for most of the race until briefly challenged by Terry Bates in the final half mile. Bates had sat back early on with Jason Le Noury, who finished in third place. A final sprint from Stuart saw off Bates`s challenge as he crossed the line in 58.03, seven seconds ahead of the second man home. These two walkers now move into 13th and 14th place on the Guernsey All Time 7 miles list.
The first four walkers home all recorded personal best times, whilst Mick Le Sauvage and Jayne Le Noury recorded new age best times. Jayne also walked a new personal best eclipsing her time set back in 1982.
1 Stuart Le Noury (M) 58.03
2 Terry Bates (M/55) 58.10
3 Jason Le Noury (M)  61.38
