Three in a row for Elliott

Second placed Rob Elliott seems to have found renewed enthusiasm since moving into the M60 age group and for the third race in a row has broken the Guernsey age best time. Following his recent 5 and 10 kilometres bests he has now added the 3 miles best to the list, again at the expense of previous holder Terry Bates.

On the tough Rocquaine Circuit, involving a hard climb away from the coast before dropping back to the finish, he was always second best to race winner Stuart Le Noury who finished over three minutes ahead and not far off his best time for the course. Terry Bates time of 28.33 looked to be out of reach at the 2 miles point in 19.50, but the final mile is mostly downhill and flat, a far cry from the uphill first mile and Elliott managed to clip five seconds off the best time. The expected challenge from leading woman Donna Allan never came as the race was walked in the middle of a long training session for her, but she still came home in a good 30.07.

Fourth and fifth places went to Phil Lockwood who walked well to beat Kevin Le Noury, 31.45 to 32.40. At the back of the field Peter Beckerleg in his first race for a while got the better of Mick Le Sauvage, whilst Dave Dorey completed the result in 39.28.

Elliott and Allan open Championships with a win.

Rob Elliott opened up the Sarnia Walking Club 2019 Championship with a winning 28.49 clocking over 5 kilometres, ahead of second placed and leading woman Donna Allan with 30.58. Elliott, celebrating his birthday and moving up into the M60 age group, surprised himself with his best time for three years and in the process broke the Guernsey age best time set by Terry Bates back in 2011. A seven minute dead time for the first of the four laps gave him a good start which was followed by laps of 7.13, 7.19 and 7.17.

Second and third places were taken by walkers who have entered marathons in the next few months, second placed Donna in London and third placed Phil Lockwood in Brighton. Fourth place went to Kevin Le Noury ahead of Kay Coulson who claimed the handicap win. Next home was Mick Le Sauvage , one race away from his 8,000 miles milestone with Dave Dorey bringing home the field.

Kevin Allan and Jayne Le Noury both succumbed to injuries and completed around half the distance.

750 metresPace Judgement Challenge

Cambridge Park, Guernsey

Stuart hits the right pace

In a light hearted event, the Sarnia walkers had a 6 lap pace judgement challenge over 750 metres at Cambridge Park. Idea is to get all the individual lap efforts as close together time wise as possible without the aid of watches being worn.

With four laps completed Stuart Le Noury and Rob Elliott had managed to walk all their laps at the same pace with times of 4.06 and 4.13 respectivley. Kay Coulson and Kevin Le Noury with three second gaps were next in line. Rob blew his chance of victory with a fast last lap of 4.09, whilst winner Stuart, although picking up speed only did so by a three seconds. Kay carried on with her consistent efforts to end up in equal second place with Elliott, with a five seconds difference. Stuart Le Noury took the win with his three seconds difference.

Stuart Le Noury wins again

Stuart Le Noury was first over the line in the Sarnia Walking Clubs 5 kilometres walk at Cambridge Park. After his slower opening kilometres with two kilometres reached in 10.29, he increased the pace to record 5.09, 5.02 and 4.59 for the final three to cross the line in 25.39. Isolated second and third places went to Phil Lockwood in 32.46 and Kevin Le Noury 34.35.

The race for fourth was won by Peter Beckerleg, who had the close company of Dave Dorey for more than half of the race. The two women Olga and Jayne Le Noury strolled around the course together in just over 42 minutes.
